Now that it is December, you are probably getting in the holiday spirit by decorating your tree. Before you can get to this step, most of you will either have to put it up or bring it home from the tree farm. If you are going with a real tree for the holidays this year, there are certain things to know before showing up at the Christmas tree farm. Here are some tips for the safe transport of your holiday tree:
Pack the Right Items
You will need to bring gloves for you to touch the tree without getting poked or covered in sap. Next, you will need to bring a blanket or tarp to lay the tree on. You don’t want the tree to damage your car. You’ll also need durable rope to tighten the tree down.
Have It Netted
Once you have picked your tree, don’t forget to have it netted. This service is offered by many tree farms, and it makes it easier for you to hold and manage the tree. The net keeps the branches tucked until you have it through your doors.
Position the Tree with the Trunk Toward the Front
When loading the tree onto your car or SUV, be sure to have the trunk turned towards the front of your vehicle. This ensures the branches don’t get damaged as this position lets the tree move towards its natural growth direction.
Make Sure It Is Secure
We tell people time and time again: don’t skimp on rope. You will need to get the top, middle, and bottom of the tree. Cover as much area as you can, and make sure to give it one last tug before driving away.
Don’t Speed
When you’re carrying a heavy item on the top of your car, such as a Christmas tree, please do not speed. It is important that you drive carefully and slowly. Avoid taking the highway as the speed of traffic is a lot faster. More importantly, ease into braking and accelerating, so the tree doesn’t fly off your car.
