Are your tires bare and not getting traction but you are afraid of what tires cost? Are you on your spare and in need of a new tire? DFW’s tire repair experts, City Garage, carry brand name tires including Bridgestone, Firestone, Goodyear, Toyo, Yokohama, Pirelli, BF Goodrich, Dunlop and more at great prices.

City Garage tire service specialists know the significance tires play in providing safety and performance to your automobile. A few tips we suggest are to check your tire pressure often. Inspect them for cuts, punctures, or any other irregular tire wear. If you spot improper tread wear bring in your vehicle to have the alignment checked. It is important to make sure your tires are balanced and aligned when they are mounted on the wheels. When you purchase your tires and an alignment from City Garage, we want you to bring your car back after 12 months for a free tire rotation and alignment check. Be cautious when braking, accelerating or cornering to help increase the life of your tires.

You can measure your tires’ depth by simply using a penny. Turn Lincoln’s image upside-down and place it inside the tread. If part of the tread is covering Lincoln’s head you have more than 2/32” of tread depth remaining, meaning you are still okay to be driving on your tires. Texas state law requires tires to be replaced when they have been worn down to 2/32” of remaining tread depth.

Luckily, all tires sold in North America are required to have indicators molded into their tread design known as “wear bars.” These run across the tread pattern from the outside to inside shoulder. Wear bars are designed to visually connect the elements of the tire’s tread pattern and warn drivers when their tires no longer meet minimum tread depth requirements.

If rain and wet roads are a concern, you should consider replacing your tires when they reach approximately 4/32” of remaining tread depth. Since water can’t be compressed you need enough tread depth to allow rain to escape through the tires’ grooves. If the water can’t escape fast enough your vehicle’s tires will be forced to hydroplane on top of the water causing your vehicle to lose traction.
